Now with all-wheel drive, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat Hybrid combines best-in-class fuel economy, smart tech, and real truck capability in a compact package.
Introduction: Why the 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid Matters
If you’ve been waiting for a compact hybrid truck with all-wheel drive, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid is your answer. Ford’s popular pickup already nailed efficiency and utility—but lacked AWD on the hybrid.
Now in 2025, it delivers. In this full review, we explore design, interior, performance, fuel economy, and why this just might be the best small hybrid truck on the market.
2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid – The Walk Around
The 2025 Ford Maverick Hybrid AWD keeps its sleek, compact form while offering rugged practicality.
Walking up to the 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid in the new Desert Sand paint, the first thing you notice is how well this muted, sandy tone highlights the truck’s sculpted lines and rugged stance. The front fascia features a refreshed grille design with a satin-chrome finish that subtly sets the Lariat apart from lower trims.
LED signature lighting wraps around the headlights, giving the Maverick a modern, almost upscale look. From the side, the body-colored mirror caps and door handles blend cleanly with the Desert Sand exterior, while 19-inch machined alloy wheels with black pockets add a bit of contrast and attitude.
Walking around to the back, the integrated step in the rear bumper and stamped Maverick tailgate, complete the look. It’s compact, but every inch is purposeful—designed to look sharp in the city and tough enough for the trail.
2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid – Interior Styling
Sitting inside the 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid, you immediately feel how Ford has blended function with a refined, no-nonsense design.
The Black Onyx interior cabin is spacious and thoughtfully laid out, with a commanding view of the road thanks to its upright seating position.
The steering wheel offers tilt and telescopic steering plus heat for those cooler days. Left side steering wheel functions include cruise control, audio volume and toggle access to safety options. On the right, remote telephone operation and display toggles.
The seats are wrapped in ActiveX, Ford’s durable, leather-like material that’s soft to the touch and easy to clean. Front seats are heated, Maverick debossed with an 8 way adjustable driver seat with power lumbar and a 6 way adjustable manual passenger seat. This area could use improvement as after a day driving through the mountains, I began to experience discomfort.
The 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid offers dual heated side mirrors which are handy setting out in the early mornings or travelling in winter over high elevations. Power side mirror adjustments are available inside the cab on the driver’s side door arm rest.
The 8-inch digital productivity screen (instrument cluster) is crisp and easy to read, and the center 13.2-inch touchscreen sits just high enough to glance at without taking your eyes too far off the road. Underneath, simple physical knobs control climate and audio—no digging through menus.
A rugged, substantial dial will turn you through the transmission which also offers a push button parking brake. Next to that, two beverage holders in the center console up front, as well as in the back with an additional two beverage holders available by pulling down the rear centre arm rest of the back seat.
Clever storage bins are tucked everywhere, from a deep center console to massive door pockets that can hold a water bottle and a tablet side by side. If you lift the back seat, you will find under-seat storage as well. It’s not flashy, but it’s smart, comfortable, and ready for real life.
Power and Performance: AWD + Hybrid Efficiency
Under the hood, the 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid introduces a major upgrade: Ford’s first all-wheel-drive system paired with its hybrid powertrain. At its core is a 2.5-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, working in tandem with an electric motor and now complemented by an electric rear axle.
This setup allows the Maverick to automatically send power to all four wheels when needed—boosting traction and control without the complexity or weight of a mechanical AWD system. The AWD system, powered by a dedicated rear electric motor, activates automatically when conditions demand extra grip.
Whether you’re navigating wet pavement, snow-covered roads, or loose gravel, the system engages seamlessly and without drama. What’s most impressive is how the 2025 Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid drives more like a crossover than a traditional truck.
The hybrid system delivers a combined 191 horsepower, routed through a continuously variable transmission (CVT) for smooth, efficient acceleration. While this isn’t a powertrain built for speed, it’s surprisingly capable for everyday driving. The CVT transmission is not quiet by any means and ascending the mountain highways, sounds rather laborious droning on at high rpms.
Ford estimates a 0–60 mph time of around 7.8 seconds, which is more than respectable for a compact truck focused on efficiency and utility.
Power delivery is linear and predictable, with plenty of torque available at low speeds, making it ideal for city driving, highway cruising, or hauling light loads.
Towing capacity stands at 2,000 pounds, which is enough for a small trailer, dirt bikes, or a pair of jet skis—more than enough for most weekend adventurers.
The ride is composed and comfortable thanks to its unibody chassis and independent rear suspension, and the AWD system adds peace of mind without sacrificing the vehicle’s light, nimble feel. This isn’t a rock crawler or Baja rig, but for daily use in all four seasons—and occasional light off-roading—it hits a sweet spot no other compact hybrid pickup does.
2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid – Drive Modes
The 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid comes equipped with multiple selectable drive modes designed to adapt to a variety of road and weather conditions. If you drive the mountain highways with varying altitudes and weather systems, these drive modes are essential.
Five drive modes are standard in the 2025 Ford Maverick Lariate AWD: Normal, Sport, Slippery, Eco and Tow/Haul, each tuning the throttle response, transmission behaviour, and traction control settings for optimal performance.
More often than not, I choose the Sport mode in a vehicle as I prefer a more responsive experience. However, in the Maverick, the difference between Sport and Normal is minimal so driving in Normal mode is sufficient most of the time.
With five modes combined with the electric all-wheel-drive system, the Maverick offers versatility—whether you’re navigating wet pavement, icy roads, or unpaved trails.
2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid – Technology and Safety Features
The 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid strikes an ideal balance when it comes to technology and safety. It’s well equipped, smart and modern without overwhelming you with features you’ll never use. This is the first time in while I have felt I am driving a car and not operating a computer.
Ford’s proven SYNC 4 infotainment system is at the heart of the experience, displayed on a crisp touchscreen. The system is fast, intuitive, and user-friendly, with a straightforward menu layout that doesn’t require a steep learning curve.
Connectivity is seamless thanks to wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, which come standard. You can mirror your smartphone, access apps, or navigate with Waze or Google Maps without ever plugging in a cable. A wireless charging pad, now with integrated cooling to prevent device overheating, keeps your phone powered up even on longer trips.
For audiophiles or those who appreciate premium sound, an optional B & O 10-speaker audio system provides excellent clarity, bass depth, and overall richness that feels well beyond what you’d expect in a compact truck.
On the safety side, Ford includes its Co-Pilot360 suite of driver assistance features standard on the Lariat trim. That means you get pre-collision assist with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring with cross-traffic alert, and a lane-keeping system right out of the box. The lane keeping assist is subtle but enough to alert you. (For once, I did not turn it off.) For more confidence on the road, included in the Lariat trim is adaptive cruise control, which maintains speed and distance in traffic.
Overall, the 2025 Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid delivers exactly the tech and safety features most drivers want—no gimmicks, no overkill. It’s built to keep you connected and protected in all the right ways.
2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid – Fuel Economy & Hybrid Efficiency
The 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat AWD Hybrid offers a 52 L fuel tank and when combined with the hybrid engine, a full tank states approximately 820 km of available travel. After filling up and heading out of the Okanagan for the mountain passes to the Lower Mainland, I kept track periodically to see how the conditions would change the reading.
For the Peachland to Merrit stretch, I drove in Normal drive mode. Ascending from 300m elevation to 1728m at the summit, at an average 110 km/hr, and a total distance of 40.3 km, the remaining range significantly changed in these conditions. On the descent into Merrit however, the hybrid engine recharged slowing the decline in remaining distance.
| Drive Mode: | Remaining Fuel | ODO |
| Normal – Ascent | 813 km | 5966 km |
| Normal – Ascent | 741 km | 5976 km |
| Normal – Ascent | 628 km | 5986 km |
| Normal – Pennask Summit | 536 km | 6008 km |
| Normal to Sport (Merritt) | 477 km | 6069 km |
| Sport – Coquihalla Summit | 357 km | 6132 km |
| Sport – Descent | 316 km | 6207 km |
| Sport – Fraser Valley | 260 km | 6272 km |
Of the 368 km journey, I kept track for 306 km as upon entering the Fraser Valley, the remaining 62 km, I chose Eco mode as traffic was heavy and the route was flat.
Ford testing states 5.8 l/100 km city driving and 6.9 l/100 km highway for a combined 6.3 l/100 km fuel efficiency. I imagine these stats are based on driving the same elevation. My stats over two high speed mountain passes averaged at 10.8 l/100 km.
