Fire burning in Peachland – BC Highway 97C

ridersfireA pair of riders pull off to the side of road Sunday, September 9, 2012 as the smoke from the Peachland wild fire billows into the sky. High winds carried smoke down Okanagan Lake and quickly turned a beautiful afternoon into dusk.

The burned out trees in front of the riders are remnants of the 2003 Okanagan Mountain Park fire.

Highway 97C, the Connector, is congested near the fire as traffic is stopping to take a look. The highway may be closed shortly as the fire is getting close to the road.
