SAXONY, Germany – As Day 2 of the Red Bull Six Days came to a close, France was still in the lead. As last year’s champions, the team is defending its title of the 36 countries represented. Leading the ladies was Ludivine Puy #501 (above) from France, followed by Jessica Gardiner #403 of Australia and Heike Petrick #407 of Germany.
Canada’s Victoria Hett (above) from Vernon, BC dropped two spots in the overall rankings of the women from 9th on day 1 to 11th at the end of day 2 coming in with a time 12 minutes behind Puy. Hett is a tough competitor but admits that “there are some really fast girls out here.” Hett is determined to finish in the top ten of the 21 ladies who began the race.
Early unofficial results posted showed 27 year old Nina Oppenlander (above) #507, of Germany, classified out however, later results ranked her in 21st place behind first time Canadian competitor Amber Giroux (below) who was still smiling as she entered the special enduro cross section for the second lap.
Almeda Rive completes team Canada and is a second time ISDE competitor having competed in Mexico in 2010. Her goal for this year’s event “I just want to finish the competition,” she said from the pits at the end of day 1. Rive had mechanical trouble in Mexico and was eliminated from the competition in day 3.
