I was fortunate to be assigned the photographer for the Sting concert when he kicked off his North American tour in May so the news that he would be performing at Circuit of the Americas over Formula 1 weekend is exciting. The show I worked in May was absolutely phenomenal. Just when you think Formula 1 weekend in November couldn’t get any better!
Here is the Press Release:
One night only at ACL Live at The Moody Theater; tickets on sale Sept. 13
AUSTIN, Texas (Sept. 9, 2013) – Circuit of The Americas™ and ACL Live today announced that Grammy, Emmy and Golden Globe Award-winning artist Sting will perform a one-night-only concert at ACL Live at The Moody Theater on the eve of the 2013 FORMULA 1 UNITED STATES GRAND PRIX in Austin, Texas. The world-renowned musician will play to an intimate audience of 2,100 in a special engagement Saturday, Nov. 16, just hours before the world’s best drivers and their teams race for fortune and glory at the United States only Formula 1 racetrack. “Circuit of The Americas is thrilled to invite an internationally acclaimed artist like Sting to be part our second Grand Prix celebration,” Circuit President and Chief Executive Officer Steve Sexton said. “Sting’s rich body of work and magnetic stage presence will make for an unforgettable performance, and we think the chance to hear him sing in one of Austin’s iconic concert venues will be popular with Formula 1 fans in town for race weekend.”
“We could not be more excited to host Sting during Formula 1’s Grand Prix celebration,” said Chairman and CEO of Stratus® Properties Beau Armstrong. “Austin City Limits Live was built with the forethought to provide a world-class, intimate setting for iconic artists and their fans. Sting is a perfect example of the level of talent we are honored to present.”
A prolific singer, songwriter and composer, Sting has evolved into one of the world’s most distinctive performers, merging jazz, reggae, classical and New Age elements with tremendous success. After disbanding The Police at the peak of the band’s popularity, Sting has forged an enduring solo career, releasing 14 solo albums. His latest, The Last Ship, will be released on Sept. 24, and is inspired by his forthcoming Broadway play of the same name. As a solo artist and member of The Police, he has earned 16 Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards, a Golden Globe, an Emmy Award and three Oscar nominations for “Best Original Song.” Sting is a member of both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.
